FileMyLtd: File Your UK Company's Accounts from India

Many Indian founders run a UK limited company from India to work with UK clients or take payments in pounds. FileMyLtd is the software we built so the director can file that company's dormant or micro-entity accounts with Companies House, and its CT600 tax return with HMRC, online and from anywhere.

Running a UK Company from India

What Does a UK Limited Company Have to File Every Year?

Living in India doesn't change a UK company's duties. Every UK limited company, even one with no activity, has filings due at Companies House in London and, once it trades, at HMRC:

FilingWho it goes toWhen it is due
Annual accounts (dormant or micro-entity)Companies House9 months after the company's financial year end
CT600 Company Tax ReturnHMRC12 months after the end of the accounting period
Corporation Tax paymentHMRCUsually 9 months and 1 day after the period ends
Confirmation statementCompanies HouseAt least once every 12 months

FileMyLtd covers the first three: dormant accounts, micro-entity accounts and the CT600. It doesn't file confirmation statements, VAT returns or payroll.

Deadlines are set in UK dates and penalties are in pounds. Companies House charges a private company £150 if its accounts are up to a month late, rising to £1,500 after six months, and doubles the penalty if accounts are late two years running. FileMyLtd sends reminders 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 days before each deadline, so the date doesn't slip past while you are working on Indian time.

Why It Matters Now

Why Directors Abroad Now Need Filing Software

UK filing is moving to software only, which affects directors abroad as much as those in the UK:

  • HMRC closed its free online service for accounts and Company Tax Returns on 31 March 2026. A CT600 can now only be filed using commercial software.
  • Companies House will only accept accounts filed with software from 1 April 2028. WebFiling and paper accounts end on that date, for dormant companies too.

For a director in India with a small or dormant UK company, the choice is between paying a UK accountant every year or using software built for these filings. FileMyLtd works in the browser, so where you live doesn't matter.

HOW IT WORKS

Filing Your UK Accounts from India in Four Steps

Everything happens online. You need your company number, your company authentication code and, for the CT600, your HMRC sign-in.

Stage 01

Find Your Company

Enter your UK company number. The company name, directors and deadlines come straight from the Companies House register.

Expected window: Step 1

  • Company details filled in for you
  • Accounts and tax deadlines in one view

Before You File from India

What to Have Ready Before You File from India

Directors abroad most often get stuck on the codes and sign-ins rather than the accounts. Have these ready:

  • Your company authentication code. Companies House posts it to the company's registered office address in the UK, not to you in India. If your registered office is a formation agent or virtual office, ask them to forward it.
  • Your company's UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference), which HMRC sends when the company is set up for Corporation Tax. FileMyLtd encrypts it when it is saved.
  • Your HMRC sign-in for the CT600. FileMyLtd uses it only for that submission and never stores it.
  • Last year's accepted accounts, which FileMyLtd reads from the register for you.

FileMyLtd handles the UK side only. If you are resident in India, income you take from the UK company may also matter for your Indian income tax return, so speak to a chartered accountant in India about your personal position.

How We Built FileMyLtd

How We Built FileMyLtd

FileMyLtd is a CyberSpark product, run by our UK sister company, Cyber Spark IT Services Ltd, which files its own accounts the same way. Building it meant working to the rules of two UK government filing systems, which is the kind of regulated engineering we do for clients:

  • Government system integrations. Company data comes from the Companies House register, and filings go through the official Companies House and HMRC software filing services.
  • iXBRL accounts. The accounts are produced as inline XBRL and validated with Arelle, the open-source XBRL processor, against the current FRC taxonomy before anything is sent.
  • Tax logic you can follow. Corporation Tax, including marginal relief, is worked out with each step shown, so a director can check the result.
  • Security by default. Two-factor sign-in before anyone can approve or submit, encrypted tax references, and HMRC sign-in details that are never stored.

If your business needs software that talks to government systems, handles financial data or produces filings, our team can build it. See our custom software development and web development services.

Common Questions

FileMyLtd Questions from Directors in India

Straight answers for founders running a UK company from India.

Can I file my UK company's accounts from India?
Yes. Companies House and HMRC filings are made online, and FileMyLtd runs in the browser, so a director can prepare and submit the accounts and the CT600 from India. You will need the company authentication code, which Companies House posts to the company's UK registered office.
Do I need a UK accountant for a dormant UK company?
Not usually. Most dormant and micro-entity companies don't need an accountant to file their accounts. The director is responsible for the filings either way. FileMyLtd prepares and checks them, and you approve and submit.
Does a dormant UK company still have to file accounts?
Yes. A dormant company must file accounts with Companies House every year, within 9 months of its financial year end, and a confirmation statement at least once every 12 months. It usually doesn't file a CT600 unless HMRC sends it a notice to deliver one.
Can I still file a CT600 on HMRC's website?
No. HMRC closed its free online service for accounts and Company Tax Returns on 31 March 2026, so a CT600 now has to be filed with commercial software. FileMyLtd prepares the CT600 from your micro-entity accounts and submits it once you approve it.
Does FileMyLtd file my Indian income tax return?
No. FileMyLtd only files the UK company's accounts with Companies House and its CT600 with HMRC. For your personal tax in India, speak to a chartered accountant.
Is FileMyLtd approved by HMRC or Companies House?
FileMyLtd is independent software and isn't part of, endorsed by or affiliated with Companies House or HMRC. It sends filings through their official software filing services and is in early access while filing is tested with both.
